How it all started.
Katherine Couzelis and Graeme Saukko-Sved, the two founders of this community initiative, were both forestry students working on a major project when they developed the idea for WAYfinder Trails & Recreation. They both noticed the need for more infrastructure that focuses on making the natural environment accessible and safer. Northern Ontario is praised for its endless amounts of outdoor recreation, yet many of our communities cannot afford to develop an innovative technology like the WAYfinder application to attract and display their natural beauty.
Katherine had been tired of hearing all the scary stories her sister had about being lost on the local trails. This gave them their main focus of using this mobile application as a safety tool, since then they have established a few more key components they want to focus on; environmental stewardship, public health, and economic benefits.
